This three-kit bundle brings together Veux-tu aller au Carnaval ?', 'Marc le magicien', and 'Chaperon Rouge' - over 150 hours of classroom instruction!

This Kit includes 3 different plays:

  • Veux-tu aller au Carnaval ?
This is a story about a young teenager who sees Suzie, a girl he likes in a café in Quebec City with her friends. The play takes place at Carnaval time. Suzie is telling Sandra that she wishes that she had someone with whom she could go to the Carnaval, but she doesn’t have a boyfriend. They leave the café and François expresses his admiration for Suzie, then comes to the conclusion that he must find a way to impress Suzie if he is going to convince her to go to the Carnaval with him. He decides to visit his friends, whom he thinks girls really like. One friend says that if François wants to impress a girl, he must wear really cool clothes and walk in a really cool way, like him. He tries to impress her with his cool clothes and his new demeanour, but she is not impressed at all and leaves quickly. Another friend arrives, wearing a hockey outfit and carrying skates. He advises François that he has to tell a girl how good he is at sports and show his muscles if he want to impress her. François visits Suzie, shows his muscles and tells her how he loves sports, but she becomes very frustrated by what he is doing and leaves him again. François decides to talk to his grandmother, who he believes will give him good advice. She tells him that he should not try to impress his friend, but should just be himself. François does just that and Suzie thinks he is great. This play is popular with teachers and students from late elementary levels right up to grade eight. Numerous emotions are expressed in this play and many students relate to the problem that faces. The moral of the story states that if we want relationships to work, we must always be ourselves.

  • Marc le magicien
This is a story about a very talented magician who, when the story begins, knows how good he is and is quite self-serving. He meets a poor old man who begs him to use his magic to help him provide shelter from the cold but Marc refuses, saying that he won’t help anyone who cannot help him in return. In the next scene, a little elf watches this interaction and decides to teach Marc a lesson. He teases Marc, saying that he has decided to remove his magical powers, since he is not using them responsibly. Marc doesn’t believe that he can do this and, when he meets with the King who asks him to use his magic to help locate the princess’s lost bracelet, he confidently agrees. Marc soon realizes that the elf did indeed remove his powers as he produces objects that the king doesn't want!. As he looks for the elf, the Queen appears in a rush, demanding that Marc use his magic to give her a beautiful singing voice. Marc is less confident this time and, when he says the magic words, the Queen begins to bark like a dog with hiccups. She is very upset and Marc tries again. This time, the Queen has a high voice like a mouse, not at all like the voice she requested! She is so upset that she informs Marc that he may never return to the castle and then she faints! Marc catches her and drags her off toward the castle, calling for the elf. In the last scene, Marc finally locates the elf, who again teases him, asking if he has learned anything. Marc explains that he realizes now that he must help those who are in need, not only the people who can do things for him. The elf says that he will give Marc one chance to prove himself and then he disappears. Marc finds the old man again and offers to give him a house. The old man doesn’t believe Marc and, as he begins to leave, Marc pleads with the old man to let him prove that he has truly changed. He says his magic words and the house appears. The old man hugs Marc and then removes his old clothing to reveal that he is really the elf! The elf teases Marc as they leave together, saying that he will be keeping an eye on him from now on!

  • Chaperon Rouge
This is an updated version of the traditional French story by Charles Perrault about a little girl who really wants to visit her grandmother, who is not feeling very well. Her mother is very concerned and is baking some cookies. Chaperon Rouge gets her mother to agree to let her visit her grandmother and sets off into the forest, but only after her mother warns her about the wolf. Chaperon Rouge is not concerned at all and is very happy to have her walk outdoors. On the way, the wolf sneaks up on Chaperon Rouge. He tries to grab her, but each time he reaches out to grab her, she moves inadvertently out of the way. Finally she turns around and he is very embarrassed to be caught! He quickly invents the story that he is in the forest because he gives directions to people who are going for a walk. He tries to write down the directions to the grandmother’s house, but has great difficulty writing, so finally Chaperon Rouge ends up writing for him. She says: “Good-bye”, thinking that the wolf is not dangerous at all, but quite silly! The wolf runs ahead to the grandmother’s house and takes a maid’s outfit from a bag and puts it on. He then rings the bell and tells the grandmother that he is her cleaning lady, Sylvie. The wolf cleans the house, but has great difficulty (in part because he is wearing high-heeled shoes!) He makes a lot of noise and the grandmother calls from her bedroom to see if everything is all right. Finally Chaperon Rouge arrives. She suspects that this is not her grandmother’s cleaning lady. The wolf identifies himself and begins to chase Chaperon Rouge around the living room and she shouts for help. The grandmother comes out of her bedroom, gives the wolf a kick and hits him with a rolling pin. He falls down on the floor and bumps his head. When he wakes up, he can’t remember who he is, so Chaperon Rouge and her grandmother decide to tell him that he is the grandmother’s full-time maid. He accepts this statement and gets to work right away!
