Attending the AIM Summer Institute is one of the best ways to learn about the Accelerative Integrated Methodology (AIM) and experience language education that really works.

AIM Summer Institutes offer extensive programming over three days to enable new teachers to learn about the unique techniques and strategies used in the AIM, and experienced teachers to deepen their knowledge and skills.

Discover how AIM blends the best of language acquisition
theory and brain-based research with interactive,
systematized and engaging classroom practice, creating
astounding results. During this action-packed and
hands-on conference, you'll learn how AIM gives students
a working fluency in the target language in less than 100
instructional hours using these key techniques:

 

  • Gestures are used to convey meaning to ensure a target-language only environment! Teachers do the gestures; students do the talking.
  • Useful, key words are taught first. Don't wait to teach high-frequency words because they are hard to conjugate!
  • Grammar raps are memorized to learn and use the rules. Finally grammar is both cool and fun!
  • Songs, dances and plays engage students in an exciting classroom environment!
  • Cooperative activities get students working with each other speaking and writing creatively in the target language.

The AIM Summer Institute will give you all the information you need to implement the AIM program. It's that simple.

The Summer Institute draws participants from across North America and around the world. In 2012, close to 100 teachers from six provinces and three states attended. Connect with and share best practices with teachers who share a passion for languages and innovative teaching practices.

Locations and Directions

Brentwood College is located in Mill Bay, about one hour by car from Victoria, BC on beautiful Vancouver Island.

  • Arriving by plane: fly directly to Victoria International Airport.
  • Arriving by car from the Vancouver area: travel by BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay via Nanaimo or Tsawwassen via Victoria.

    The school is a one-hour drive from the Victoria International Airport and from the ferry terminals in Nanaimo and Victoria. Brentwood can provide transportation to/from the Victoria International Airport and to/from the major ferry terminals by prior arrangement and for an additional cost. Anticipated costs based on expected transportation charges from Brentwood are approximately $25 per person per one-way trip. Based on demand, we can help arrange scheduled pick-up times and locations.

Accommodation August 18, 2013

  • By prior arrangement, accommodation can be reserved at Brentwood the night before the Summer Institute, on August 18, 2013.
  • Room rates: $100/single room or $120/double room. This rate includes taxes and hot breakfast on August 19th.
  • Please note, dinner will not be available. There is a small shopping centre with a grocery store (open until 10pm) and a few restaurants located within walking distance.
  • Please check in by 10pm at the latest on August 18th if possible. If you will be arriving later, please let us know so we can make sure you have access to your room.
