groups of adults and kids having fun with AIM

In June 2004, a revolutionary new program using the
Accelerative Integrated Method (AIM) was introduced
in Canada. In just three years, Histoires en action ! has
transformed the way French is being taught. And now,
primary immersion teachers are having great success
with our program designed for young beginners.

Pascal Gendron,
Lower Canada College

“I would stop teaching French if I had to stop using
the AIM – it’s that good!”

Gary Ziel,
Medicine Hat Public School

INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS

Day One

In this hands-on workshop, you will:

  • Learn about the theoretical framework of the AIM in order to better understand the components of the program and implement them successfully;
  • Learn why a story-based approach is so much more effective than a thematic approach;
  • Learn gestures from Wendy Maxwell’s revolutionary “Gesture Approach”;
  • Learn the songs, dances, and play from Histoires en action ! pour les tout petits first unit, La poule Maboule;
  • Learn how to begin with this approach from the first day of classes;
  • Learn classroom raps used to establish classroom routines;
  • Work in small groups to practice gestures;
  • Brainstorm ideas for implementing this approach with very young learners;
  • Watch video footage of students in action using the program.

Day Two

This all-day workshop is designed for teachers who have already attended the first day of an introductory workshop. In this workshop, the presenters will show teachers how to take the method to the next level of the program. Topics covered will include:

  • how to do story-retelling activities;
  • how to teach plural forms of verbs and double verb construction;
  • how to teach les contraires and le négatif;
  • how to assess student work;
  • correction of work – making non-intimidating for young learners;
  • improvising with puppets (Creative Improvisational Storytelling);
  • more songs and dances for student performances
  • stategies for the emergent writer.
